Joey Mars is an artist illustrator who has been creating a unique world of characters and far out planetary environments for more than 40 years. His art has reached the far corners of the world through licensing distribution contracts with Liquid Blue, Polygram, Not Fade Away, Net Sales and Orion Distribution. In the 1990s and 2000s the Joey Mars brand and fan base grew as the tshirt, merch and poster art was sold in malls, boutiques and beach shops across America.
Joey went to art school in Boston at Vesper George School of Art and The Art Institute of Boston in the 1980s. He began creating band flyers and rock and roll posters for Boston's local alt rockers which lead to deals with Aerosmith and Grateful Dead. Living in Worcester in the 90’s he was president and member of the Worcester Artist Group, Inc., a non profit arts organization, bringing live music and artist events to Central Massachusetts. He continued his commercial work for The Boston Phoenix and LIVE NATION as a rock art poster designer in the Y2K years. Mars traveled and worked as a consultant artist for Shop Therapy, travelling throughout Asia, helping to develop their unique merchandise and brand of alternative shopping emporium experience. Joey is well known for his eye-catching iconic murals that adorn the outside of Shop Therapy on 288 Commercial St. in Provincetown MA.
Moving to Cape Cod in the late 90’s Joey began showcasing his art in small retail spots and local galleries throughout the Cape and the Northeast. He collaborated with local P-town artists joining Helltown Workshop which was influential in showcasing local artists and helped launch successful careers. He continues to create his artwork on canvas, digitally, and through merchandise and t-shirts, and he is active in supporting the arts throughout Cape Cod. Joey is currently hosting a weekly live online auction on Whatnot, featuring his work, including one-of-a-kind t-shirts, clothing and hats, as well as original canvas and prints.
